Jay Johnson highlights GNO QB Club’s 2024 Baseball Bash set for January 22

Year one was a huge hit. Year two figures to be even bigger.

The second annual Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club Baseball Bash is set for noon on Monday, January 22 at The Cannery, 3803 Toulouse Street in New Orleans.

This year’s keynote speaker is Jay Johnson of defending national champion LSU.

The National Coach of the Year, Johnson took over the storied LSU program in 2022 and in his second year, Johnson led the Tigers to their seventh NCAA national championship. Johnson previously served as head coach at Arizona, Nevada and Point Loma Nazarene.

While Johnson will highlight an outstanding day, which will include all area head coaches of college and junior college programs.

Those include Bobby Barbier of Southeastern Louisiana, Blake Dean of the University of New Orleans, Trennis Grant of Dillard, Adrian Holloway of Xavier, Jeremy Kennedy of Loyola, Olen Parker Jr. of SUNO, Glenn Powell of Nunez, Joe Scheuermann of Delgado, Mike Silva of Nicholls and Jay Uhlman of Tulane.

A New Orleans native from Archbishop Shaw, Barbier takes over at Southeastern after a successful stint at Northwestern State.

Dean is entering his ninth season at the helm at UNO after a very successful playing career, winning a national championship at LSU.

Grant took Dillard to the NAIA national tournament in his first season, the first season competing for the Bleu Devils, in 2023.

Holloway launched the Xavier program in 2020 following a very successful stint as head coach at Selma University.

Kennedy enters his fourth year at Loyola. Kennedy has led the Wolf Pack to a pair of NAIA national tournament appearances.

Parker Jr. will launch the SUNO program this season. A New Orleans native, Parker is a St. Augustine High and Grambling graduate.

Powell, a St. Bernard native, enters his sixth year with the program he launched at Nunez and continues to grow.

Scheuermann is a Hall of Fame coach entering his 34th year after leading the Dolphins to the NJCAA World Series in 2023.

Silva is the reigning Southland Conference Coach of the Year after leading Nicholls to the NCAA tournament in 2023.

Uhlman led Tulane to the American Athletic Conference tournament championship and the NCAA tournament in his first season in 2023.

All will speak.
