Holy Cross, Brother Martin tune up for wrestling showdown with tournament victories

The stage is set.

The two best wrestling teams in the state will square off Wednesday night in Gentilly when 2017 Division I state champion Holy Cross entertains defending state champion Brother Martin.

The Tigers tuned up in impressive fashion, capturing the Catholic High Duals.

Holy Cross defeated rival Jesuit 50-21 in the finals.

Scoring pins for Holy Cross in the title match were Jacob Frost (113), Michael Lundin (126), Caruso Signorelli (132), Brady Butler (152) and Caden Mumme (182).

The Tigers also defeated St. Amant (52-9) in the semifinals, Dutchtown 82-0, Hoover (AL) 60-15 and Lakeshore (84-0).

St. Amant was third with Catholic fourth.

Brother Martin also tuned up by winning the George Trygg Memorial despite not having starters entered, for the most part.

Winning their respective weight classes for the Crusaders were Chase Scott (113), Quinn Williams (126), Riley Horvath (145), Seth Alfonso (152), Cameron Frederick (195) and Kyle West (220).

St. Paul’s was second, Covington finished third, Bonnabel was fourth and Rummel came in fifth.
