Gold Rush lose RRAC Tournament opener to LSU-Alexandria

STERLINGTON, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana baseball lost 18-2 Friday to LSU-Alexandria in the first round of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.

The game was stopped after 6 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule.

The tournament is double elimination. The Gold Rush (19-24) will play an elimination game at 2 p.m. CDT Saturday against Our Lady of the Lake.

Five LSUA players — Bryson Broussard, Peyton Marcantel, Brant Leslie, Ivan Prejean and Zack Larson — hit home runs. Leslie and Prejean had six RBIs apiece.

XULA scored its runs in the sixth inning. D’Aires Davis singled home Co Co Simoneaux, and Courtland Posey singled home Davis.

The Generals (30-14), seeded second in the tournament, produced four innings with at least three runs, including a five-run fourth and a six-run sixth.

XULA is seeded seventh. OLLU, seeded third, lost 7-6 to Texas A&M-Texarkana.
