SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Xavier University of Louisiana softball lost 10-1 Friday to NAIA No. 22 Texas A&M-Texarkana in the first round of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament at St. Mary’s University.

The game was stopped after 4 1/2 innings because of the eight-run rule.

The tournament is double elimination. The seventh-seeded Gold Nuggets (21-29) will play an elimination game at 10 a.m. CDT Saturday at the host school, Our Lady of the Lake, against Houston-Victoria or Texas A&M-San Antonio.

XULA’s Alexis Richardson led off the game with a single, but the Gold Nuggets didn’t get their other hit until the fifth inning, when Shay Angelle doubled home pinch runner Kiera Evans.

The Eagles (38-11), seeded second in the tournament, scored two runs apiece in the first, second and third innings and four runs in the fourth. TAMUT had 17 baserunners — nine singles, a double and seven walks against losing pitcher Carina Chargois, who was named first-team All-RRAC Wednesday.
