Girls Prep Playoff Soccer Report for Sat., Feb. 9

DIVISION I DIVISION II DIVISION III DIVISION IV

There was a glimmer of hope. With a championship pedigree and playing at home, ninth-seeded Ben Franklin was hoping that those would prove to be advantages against powerful defending state champion and top seed St. Thomas More in the LHSAA girls soccer playoffs Friday.

However, Maddie Moreau put on a show, displaying why LSU has signed her. Moreau, who was named Division II Player of the Year a year ago, delivered a hat trick and an assist in a dominant performance as the Cougars shutout the Falcons 4-0 in the Division II state quarterfinals on the Lakefront.

After a scoreless first half, St. Thomas More (16-3-3) dominated the second half with her three goals and assisted on the fourth goal scored by Peyton St. Pierre. This was the third straight year that St. Thomas More has eliminated Ben Franklin (16-7-1) in the playoffs.

St. Thomas More advances to state semifinals to battle the winner of Monday’s match pitting No. 5 Central Lafourche at No. 4 Destrehan, set for 6 pm.
