Girls Soccer Playoffs: Lakeshore, Ben Franklin advance to quarterfinals with victories

A pair of local teams with serious aspirations posted victories in the Regional round of the LHSAA girls soccer state playoffs Monday.

In Division II, Lakeshore appears to be a serious contender to St. Thomas More.

The second-seeded Titans walloped No. 15 Ruston 8-0 at Mandeville to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Titans (17-3-4) got a pair of goals from Kylie Milligan and Jada Wall to pace the attack. Lakeshore advances to the quarterfinals to take on the winner of Wednesday’s match between seventh-seeded Ouachita Parish and No. 10 Live Oak.

Defending champion St. Thomas More easily dispatched of No. 17 Archbishop Chapelle 8-0 in Lafayette.

Also in Division II, ninth seed Ben Franklin went to No. 8 Caddo Magnet and won 4-0. The Falcons advance to the quarterfinals to host St. Thomas More in a battle of traditional powers.

In Division III, No. 7 Holy Savior Menard edged Cabrini 1-0.

In Division IV, No. 10 Catholic of New Iberia went to Covington and edged No. 7 Christ Episcopal 1-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Anna Broussard scored the only goal, late in the first half for the Panthers, and it stood up. The Wildcats end their fine season 14-2-1.
