Girls Basketball Playoffs: Northwood-Lena, Oak Hill, Fairview reach title games

Three more teams reached state championship games at the Ochsner LHSAA girls non-select state tournament Tuesday at University Center in Hammond.

In Class 1A, No. 1 Northwood-Lena looked the part of the top seed with an easy 82-35 win over No. 4 Merryville in the semifinals.

The Lady Gators forced 34 turnovers with relentless pressure throughout.

Nakiyah Allen led Northwood-Lena with 24 points. Samantha Johnson scored 10 points to lead the Lady Panthers.

Northwood-Lena (33-1) will face No. 2 North Central Friday at 4 p.m. in the title game.

In Class B, No. 5 Oak Hill advanced to the championship game with a 64-56 win over No. 9 Anacoco.

It was a tail of two halves.

Anacoco controlled the first half, taking a 31-24 lead to the break but Oak Hill outscored Anacoco 40-25 in the second half.

Emma Tucker led Oak Hill with 18 points, scoring all of her points on six 3-pointers. Krystina Greene scored 17 points while Alexis Dyer had 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Brooklyn Bryant led Anacoco with 23 points, making 11 of 13 field goal attempts, while Bailey Davis had eight points, 13 rebounds and six assists.

Oak Hill (37-6) is in the state title game for the first time in school history and will face No. 2 Fairview in the championship game Friday at 7 p.m.

Two-time defending state champion Fairview beat No. 3 Florien 70-55.

As was the case with the other Class B semifinal, it was a tale of two halves. Florien led 11-6 after one quarter and carried a 32-18 lead into halftime. Fairview then blitzed Florien 52-23 in the second half for the victory.

Rylee Cloud pumped in 34 points for the Lady Panthers (36-5), who forced 23 turnovers by Florien.

Fairview has won the most state basketball titles in Louisiana girls prep basketball history with 13.
