Girls Basketball Playoff Report: Teurlings Catholic ousts Sacred Heart, 18 area teams open play tonight

In the Division II girls state playoffs Wednesday night, 12th-seed Teurlings Catholic pulled away late from 21st-seed Academy of The Sacred Heart of New Orleans, winning 63-48 at Lafayette.

It was the first playoff win for the Lady Rebels since 2009.

It was a tale of two halves.

The Cardinals started fast, taking a 20-18 lead after one quarter before the Lady Rebels carried a narrow 34-32 lead into halftime.

The second half belonged to the Lady Rebels, who opened the half on a decisive 12-0 run from which Sacred Heart (13-15) could not recover. It was 49-36 after three quarters and the Cardinals did not threaten in the final period.

Megan Enderlin led the way for Teurlings Catholic (16-15) with 18 points, Olivia Cunningham contributed 17 points while Kamerynn Glasgow had 11 points..

The Rebels advance to play at fifth-seeded Cabrini (16-11) in the regional round.

This evening, 18 New Orleans area teams open play in the playoffs, including second-seed Ponchatoula (28-3) in 5A. The Green Wave host 31st-seed Parkway (12-16) at 6:30 p.m.

In Division II, a pair of area teams square off on the north shore as 20th-seeded De La Salle (5-20) treks to Covington to face 13th-seed St. Scholastica (13-17) at 6 p.m.
