Girls Basketball: Dominican rebounds with win over Country Day

Area Girls Prep Basketball Report for Thursday, Jan. 24

After seeing its seven-game win streak end at the hands of John Curtis Christian last Thursday, Dominican was eager to get back on the court Wednesday in Metairie.

Country Day paid the price as Dominican won 44-27.

Dominican led 13-9 after one quarter and grew the lead to 27-16 by halftime. It was 38-25 after three quarters.

Kate Baker, Laynie Tierney and Ahjah Yunusah each scored nine points to pace Dominican (20-4) while Kaci Chairs had 25 points for the Cajuns (11-7).

Dominican was second in the LHSAA Division I power rankings released Tuesday, trailing only John Curtis, while Country Day was fourth in the Division III power rankings, trailing Northlake Christian, St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Katharine Drexel.

Dominican returns to action this evening at Riverside Academy at 6 pm while Country Day will host E.D. White Catholic Monday at 5 pm.
