For Hank Tierney, it had been over two decades between coaching games for Archbishop Shaw.

The last time he did so, the Eagles were playing home games at Hoss Memtsas Stadium.

While Shaw now plays home games on campus at Joe Zimmerman Stadium, Friday night’s jamboree matchup with Riverdale was at nearby Hoss Memtsas Stadium.

It seemed like old times.

Shaw cruised past Riverdale, 49-7.

Jayce LaCava ran for two scores and passed for a third touchdown while David Kency raced 65 yards for a touchdown.

Michael Williams, back from a knee injury, was outstanding. The senior returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown and caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from LaCava.

Gavin Richard returned a punt 50 yards for a score as well.

Jordan Evans had an interception for the Eagles.

Crescent City Sports will live stream Shaw’s season opener against St. Charles Catholic in LaPlace next Friday night. Riverdale plays Week 1 next Saturday night against Livingston Collegiate.

In the opening game, Brother Martin dominated West Jefferson 35-0.

Torey Lambert dazzled with touchdown runs of 50, 16 and 15 yards to highlight the night for the Crusaders.

Sidney Harris added a four-yard touchdown.

Clayton Lonardo connected with Alejandro Ferrera on a 42-yard touchdown pass.

Gregory Jackson had an interception for Brother Martin. Travis Tolliver had a fumble recovery for the Buccaneers.

Brother Martin opens its season at home against Madison Prep next Friday night while West Jefferson travels to St. Paul’s.
