Former LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte arrested in illegal sports gambling charges

Kayshon Boutte went from being a projected first-round draft pick to fading badly and ended up as a sixth-round pick of the New England Patriots a year ago.

LSU and Boutte had issues and now we know more.

Boutte has been arrested, charged with two counts dealing with alleged illegal sports betting while he was a student-athlete at LSU.

The allegations include Boutte making several wagers on LSU games and even wages on himself.

The Louisiana State Police issued a statement about the arrest.

Since the alleged betting by Boutte occurred when he was 20 years old, he was underage, not yet of the legal betting age of 21.

The allegations have Boutte, using an alias to hide his identity, placing gets between April 2022 and May 2023.

LSU issued a statement on the situation:

“In July 2023, LSU was made aware of allegations regarding a former student-athlete’s improper conduct related to sports gambling while enrolled at the University. Since then, we have fully cooperated with all relevant authorities involved in the investigation and will continue to do so. We have no evidence that any other student-athletes participated in these prohibited activities, and we are grateful for measures that detect and discourage sports gambling related misconduct.”

As a rookie with the Patriots, Boutte played in five games, catching two passes for 19 yards this past season.
