Former LSU star D.J. LeMahieu wins third Gold Glove with Rockies

BATON ROUGE, La. – Colorado Rockies infielder DJ LeMahieu, who helped lead LSU to the 2009 College World Series title, was named the winner Sunday night of the 2018 National League Gold Glove Award at second base.

The 2018 Gold Glove Award is the third of LeMahieu’s career, as he was also the National League recipient at second base in 2014 and in 2017. The award is presented each year to the best defensive player at each position in both the National League and American League.

LeMahieu became the fifth player in Rockies history to win at least three Gold Gloves. The other four are Nolan Arenado, Larry Walker, Carlos González and Todd Helton.

LeMahieu committed only four errors during the 2018 season, posting a .993 fielding percentage while recording 378 assists and turning 83 double plays.

LeMahieu, a 2015 and 2017 National League All-Star, helped lead the Rockies to the playoffs this season, batting .276 in 128 games during the regular season with 32 doubles, two triples, 15 homers, 62 RBI and 90 runs scored.

LeMahieu, a native of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., played at LSU in 2008 and 2009 and signed with the Chicago Cubs after he was selected in the second round of the ’09 MLB Draft.

He hit .344 during his college career with 24 doubles, five triples, 11 homers and 87 RBI. He was named to the 2009 College World Series All-Tournament team, batting .444 during the Tigers’ drive to the national championship.
