NEW ORLEANS – Tai Enosa’s try in the 70th minute snapped the third tie of the day and carried the San Diego Legion to a 26-19 victory over the NOLA Gold in a showdown of the top two teams in Major League Rugby Saturday at Gold Stadium.

San Diego picked up five points in the MLR standings table – four for the victory and one for scoring four tries – to move one point ahead of the Gold and into first place with 52 points. By keeping the final margin within seven points, NOLA also picked up a bonus point.

The Gold has three matches remaining, including next Saturday’s regular-season home finale against Houston. San Diego has two matches left, including a rematch with NOLA in three weeks in California.

NOLA never led, but answered each of San Diego’s first three tries to pull even at 5, 12 and 19.

Cam Dolan scored in the 16th minute, and Tristan Blewett scored his team-leading 10th and 11th tries of the season in the 34th and 53rd minutes.

Enosa, who came off the bench for the Legion, delivered the game-winner.

Saturday’s match was televised nationally by CBS Sports Network.
