Dunlap claims final SLC Specials Teams of the Week Honor

HAMMOND, La. – After an excellent performance in his final game as a Lion, Southeastern Louisiana University punter Austin Dunlap was named the Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week in an announcement from the league office Monday.

The weekly honor was the seventh career and third in 2023 for Dunlap. The Slidell, Louisiana native previously was honored this fall Sept. 18 and Sept. 25.

After being honored with the 21-member senior class prior to Thursday’s River Bell Classic versus Nicholls, Dunlap averaged a career-best 50.6 yards per punt on five efforts. He posted punts of 57 and 56 yards in the season finale.

Dunlap led the Southland Conference with a 43.9 punting average and currently is seventh in FCS. His 42.6 career punting average ranks sixth among active FCS career student-athletes.

The 2023 season of Inside Southeastern Football with Frank Scelfo is airing from its new home – Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux (305 CM Fagan Dr) in Hammond. Hosted by Scelfo and Allen Waddell, the hour-long radio show will air Mondays throughout the football season on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM.
