FRISCO, Texas – Following a career-high 21 tackles against Lamar, McNeese redshirt sophomore linebacker Micah Davey has been selected as this week’s Jersey Mikes Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday in the final player of the week selections of the season.

Davey’s 21 tackles are the second-most in a game in McNeese football history while he became the first player in school history to record back-to-back 20-tackle games. He recorded 20 last week against HCU.

For his production, Davey was also named FedEx Ground FCS National Defensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention for the second consecutive week.

Seven of Davey’s tackles against Lamar were solo hits and he finished with 1.5 tackles for a loss and a quarterback hurry.

For the season, Davey set a new school record with a 15.3 tackles per game average while his 153 total tackles rank as the sixth-most in a season in history. He recorded double-digit tackles in all 10 games and would have given the single-season record of 172 a run had the game against Northwestern State not been canceled.

For his career, Davey will enter his junior season in 2024 with 221 tackles, ranking him just outside the McNeese all-time top 20 list. He becomes the second Cowboy this season to garner player of the week honors by the league. Former returner Cam Thomas earned special team accolades in week one.

Nicholls quarterback Pat McQuaide was named offensive player of the week while Southeastern punter Austin Dunlap garnered special teams honors.
