Dominican, MCA, Slidell, SSA, Ben Franklin, Hannan, Newman, Curtis, Northlake, Country Day reach state volleyball semifinals

Three-time defending state champion and top seed Dominican, second seed Mount Carmel Academy and fourth-seeded Slidell all advanced to the LHSAA Division I state semifinals with victories Thursday at the Cajundome in Lafayette.

Dominican drilled No. 9 Fontainebleau 25-13, 25-15, 25-16 as LSU beach volleyball commit Camryn Chatellier had 18 kills.

Dominican (41-2) will face No. 4 seed Slidell in the semifinals.

The Tigers (35-5) whipped No. 5 Sam Houston 25-17, 25-19, 25-19 behind 21 kills and 14 digs from Reagan Robinson.

No. 2 Mount Carmel Academy handled No. 7 Ruston 25-13, 25-13, 25-13 behind 12 kills by Caroline Harris.

The Cubs (29-7) will face No. 3 seed Dutchtown in the semifinals.

The Griffins (35-8) eliminated No. 11 Archbishop Chapelle (22-19) in a tough five-set match 25-27, 25-20, 27-29, 25-14, 15-8.

In Division II, defending champion St. Thomas More eliminated No. 9 Assumption 25-10, 25-16, 25-15.

The Cougars (32-5) will meet No. 4 St. Scholastica in the semifinals.

The Doves came from behind to down rival and No. 12 seed Lakeshore 21-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-13 behind 13 kills and 13 digs from Lauren Gazeley. The Titans finished their season 16-16.

No. 3 Teurlings Catholic fought off No. 6 Academy of Our Lady 29-27, 17-25, 25-13, 25-9.

The Rebels (29-12) advance to take on No. 2 seed Ben Franklin.

The Falcons (36-7) downed No. 10 Kenner Discovery 25-8, 25-18, 25-6 as Aubrey Muirhead and Cori Staes each had 10 kills.

In Division III, top-seeded Archbishop Hannan fought off a huge challenge from No. 8 Haynes Academy 25-19, 16-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-11.

The Hawks (39-2) will face No. 4 Catholic of New Iberia in the semifinals. Catholic defeated No. 5 St. Michael 25-23, 25-21, 25-15.

No. 3 Parkview Baptist advanced with a No. 6 Vandebilt Catholic 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, 25-18. Brooklyn Phillips had 21 kills.

The Eagles (32-7) will face No. 2 E.D. White Catholic in the semifinals. The Cardinals (32-8) dismissed No. 7 Lafayette Christian 27-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-17.

In Division II, defending champion and top seed Newman moved on with a 25-10, 25-11, 25-8 win over No. 8 seed Thomas Jefferson. Tatum Young put away 10 kills while Caroline Beahm added nine kills.

The Greenies (36-7) will play No. 5 Notre Dame in the semifinals.

The Pios (27-16) went five sets to oust No. 4 Calvary Baptist 19-25, 25-17, 25-21, 17-25, 15-10.

No. 2 John Curtis Christian whipped No. 7 Academy of the Sacred Heart of New Orleans 25-15, 25-17, 25-19 as Imani Daniel had 11 kills and two blocks and Makayla Morter added 11 kills.

The Patriots (33-8) will face No. 3 Northlake Christian in the semifinals.

The Wolverines (33-7) outlasted rival and No. 6 seed Pope John Paul II 25-16, 25-19, 17-25, 21-25, 15-8 behind 23 kills and 28 digs from Abigail Bailey.

In Division V, seven-time defending champion Country Day ousted No. 9 Episcopal of Acadiana 25-14, 25-16, 25-17 as Lia Beverly had 13 kills.

The Cajuns (25-9) advance to meet No. 4 Central Catholic in the semifinals. Central Catholic defeated No. 5 McGehee 25-20, 23-25, 25-11, 25-16. The Hawks finished the season 23-10.

No. 2 Westminster Christian took care of No. 7 Central Private 25-11, 25-20, 25-13 as Bethany Stoute had 13 kills, three blocks and two aces.

The Crusaders (28-10) will face No. 3 Ascension Episcopal in the semifinals, who edged No. 6 Ascension Catholic 28-26, 25-15, 26-28, 22-25, 15-10 behind 19 kills and 17 digs from Ryan Simon.
