Derrius Guice’s rookie NFL season is over before it even started.

The Washington Redskins have confirmed the running back tore his ACL in his first preseason game Thursday night. As a result, the former LSU and Catholic-Baton Rouge star is out for the season.

Guice injured his left knee at the end of the first quarter against the New England Patriots. He had 19 yards on six carries at the time and did not return to the contest.

The second round pick was expected to be a key contributor and Washington’s likely first option in the running game.
