Delgado sweeps Nunez with 12-4 win Monday

Delgado completed a conference series sweep of Nunez with Monday night’s 12-4 win over the Pelicans in game three of the weekend series at Suarez Stadium in Chalmette.

Nunez took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on three hits and a groundout.

In the third, Josh Alexander reached on a walk before scoring on a homer by Jacob Singletary. A second home run by Brock Slaton tied the game at three. Cole Stromboe walked and stole second before scoring on a single by Giovanni Licciardi to give Delgado the 4-3 lead.

The Dolphins plated four additional runs in the fourth following RBI doubles by Jhonnatan Ferrebus and Cole Stromboe and an RBI single by Jake Kaufmann. Nunez’s Landon Manson homerun to lead off the sixth for the Pelicans’ fourth and final run of the night.

Delgado added four in the ninth inning on singles by Kaufmann, Cade Pregeant, and Bryan Broussard and a double by Giovanni LIcciardi, his third of the game.

Starting pitcher Logan O’Neill earned the win, pitching into the sixth with Tyler Velino (1.0+ IP), Carson Lore (1.0+ IP), and Kaile Levatino (1.0 IP).

Delgado (35-7, 11-0) will host John Melvin University in a 5:00 doubleheader Tuesday at Kirsch-Rooney before hosting Baton Rouge in a three game conference series this weekend.
