De La Salle’s Julien Gums named GNOSF Prep Player of Week
De La Salle senior quarterback Julien Gums has been chosen as the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation and CrescentCitySports.com Prep Player of the Week for Week 3 of the prep football season.
A Nicholls commit, Gums rushed 26 times for 182 yards and a touchdown and completed 1-of-4 passes for 5 yards and a touchdown as the top-ranked and unbeaten Cavaliers handed defending Class 4A state champion Karr its first loss in 17 games, 28-26 at Tad Gormley Stadium.

De La Salle held off Karr with a stop on a two-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter. The game was broadcast live on Crescent City Sports.

Gums is coached by Ryan Manale. He will be honored at the year-end meeting of the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Rock ‘n’ Bowl.
