It was simply too impressive to ignore.

Southern Lab took apart a good Kentwood team in the second half last Friday night to finish a 9-1 season, losing only to perhaps the best team in the state in University High.

As a result, the Kittens are the top-ranked team in our CrescentCitySports.com final Top 10 rankings, completing the regular season and entering the state playoffs.

Unbeaten Oak Grove is now second with unbeatens Haynesville and Lafayette Christian third and fourth. Ascension Catholic is fifth. West St. John is up to seventh with Kentwood now eighth.

In Class 5A, John Curtis Christian is the top team with West Monroe second, Catholic of Baton Rouge third, John Ehret fourth and Zachary fifth. Archbishop Rummel moves back in at No. 10 after an impressive 38-14 win over St. Augustine. The Raiders have good wins over 9-1 Gulfport High, Holy Cross, Brother Martin and Jesuit.

Karr holds on to the top spot in Class 4A with unbeaten Lakeshore up to second. Warren Easton falls just one spot to third, though the Eagles still look like one of the top two teams in the class after its 21-20 loss to Karr. St. Thomas More is fourth with Neville fifth.

University High is No. 1 in Class 3A with unbeaten Iota second after its thrilling 35-34 win over Eunice. Archbishop Hannan is third with Sterlington fourth and Lake Charles College Prep fifth. St. Charles Catholic moves up to seventh after its overtime win over St. James.
