Area Boys Prep Basketball Results from Wednesday, Dec. 26

It was a solid day for area teams at the annual Sunkist Shootout in Lafayette Wednesday at St. Thomas More High School.

Country Day fought off Comeaux 53-48 for its sixth straight win.

Kaleb Jenkins led the way for the Cajuns (10-3) with 19 points while Christian Becnel added 17 points. Christian Archangel had 17 to pace the Spartans (2-10).

Northshore easily handled Southern Lab 53-26.

The Panthers (8-8) were led by Michael Benedict with 15 points while James Martin finished with 10 points. Cameron Robinson topped the Kittens (2-10) with six points.

In a battle of Rebels, Riverside Academy hammered Teurlings Catholic 77-38.

Riverside (4-8) was led by Isaiah Bigham with 20 points, Brian Walker had 17 and Kash Foley finished with 16 points. Bryce Girard led Teurlings Catholic (4-7) with eight points as the Rebels lost their third straight game.

Sophie B. Wright rolled over St. Thomas Aquinas 84-35.

The Warriors (15-3) got a dominant performance from Charlie Russell, Jr., who had 30 points and 15 rebounds while Greg Hammond finished with 18 points. The Falcons (2-14) got 10 points each from Jacob Romero and JeMichael Williams.

Defending Class 5A state champion Walker fought off a still challenge from Archbishop Rummel, rallying to win 62-52.

Walker controlled play in the first half and led 23-13 at the break but the Raiders rallied to take a two-point lead with under seven minutes left before Jalen Cook returned from foul trouble to lead the Wildcats to victory. Cook scored 12 of his game-high 21 points in the final quarter for Walker (12-4). Trent Montgomery added 15 points while Brian Thomas had 14 for the Wildcats. Corey Smooth led Rummel (4-10) with 20 points while Kade Rivera finished with 10 points.
