HAMMOND, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team tallied 10 hits in its 7-3 victory over Southeastern on Pat Kennelly Diamond at Alumni Field on Saturday night.

After two home runs gave the Lions a 3-0 lead, the Colonels responded by scoring seven unanswered runs that included six consecutive scoreless innings by the Red & Gray defense.

Nicholls’ rally began in the fourth frame when a Garrett Felix hit a single that slipped past the left fielder to allow Parker Coddou and Edgar Alvarez to use their speed to plate two runs for the Colonels. In the following stanza, Coddou and Alvarez took advantage of another error on a Gerardo Villarreal single to right field to put the Red & Gray on top (4-3).

In the seventh, Alvarez hit a one out RBI double to right center field that brought Narvin Booker Jr. home after he got on with a triple. Coddou scored his third run of the game on a fielder’s choice to put the Colonels up 6-3. Booker Jr. added a RBI on a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Michael Guerrero (2-0) earned his second victory of the season after striking out four batters and allowing five hits in 4.1 scoreless innings of action. Starting pitcher Jack Nelson registered a season high nine strikeouts while allowing four hits in 4.2 innings of work.

For the Lions, TJ Salvaggio and Justin Williams hit home runs, while starting pitcher Dakota Lee (0-3) picks up the loss after allowing eight hits and six runs in 6.1 innings of action.
