The improbable run of McDonogh 35 toward a state championship came to a halt Tuesday in Lake Charles.

The 18th-seeded Roneagles actually had a lead in the fourth quarter but could not hold it in a tough 62-56 loss to third-seed Woodlawn of Shreveport at Burton Coliseum.

The Knights led 17-13 after one quarter and held a narrow 26-25 lead at halftime. McDonogh 35 caught Woodlawn, tying the game 38-38 after three quarters.

The fourth quarter was back-and-forth before Woodlawn took control, taking advantage of turnovers by the Roneagles, who finished with 22.

“We came up a little short, but we had too many turnovers in the fourth quarter and they came back to bite us,” McDonogh 35 head coach Kevin Sanders said.

Senior Kendrick Dandy went out with a flourish for the Roneagles (20-15), scoring 30 points and pulling down nine rebounds.

“I never wanted this to end,” Dandy said. “I really wanted this game.”

Derrick Lewis and Antonio Warren each had six points for McDonogh 35.

Tra’Michael Moton led the Knights (31-5) with 20 points while Jalen Brooks added 15 points.

Woodlawn advances to take on fifth-seed Carencro in the 4A title game Friday at 6 p.m. The fifth-seeded Bears upset top-seeded Westgate 68-53.
