They have been the top two teams in District 8-5A for the past several years. The district championship runs through them.

The district championship is on the line when Chalmette travels to Hoss Memtsas Stadium to take on John Ehret at 6:30 p.m.

The Owls (6-1, 1-0) have won four straight games, including a 48-10 district victory over East Jefferson.

The only loss for Chalmette was a competitive 28-20 loss to a very strong Holy Cross team.

Quarterback Ethan Couvillion leads a potent Owls passing attack. Couvillion has completed 67-of-105 passes for 1,128 yards with 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. His top target is Jaden Williams, who has 21 receptions for 406 yards and six touchdowns. Jaden Lapeyrousse has 17 receptions for 372 yards and five touchdowns. Rayone Russell has 20 catches for 288 yards and five scores.

The Patriots (4-3, 1-0), winners of two straight games, have faced a very tough schedule. Ehret has a 42-0 district win over West Jefferson. The Patriots have a strong rushing attack, led by Damien Smith, who has 76 carries for 595 yards and six touchdowns. Up front, LSU commit Khayree Lee is a force. The secondary is very strong, featuring Florida commit Wardell Mack and Tulane commit Armani Cargo.

Ehret won a 33-28 thriller at Chalmette last season to claim the district title.

Chalmette won 45-20 in 2020 to win the district championship.

Also tonight, Riverdale (3-4, 1-0) hosts De La Salle (2-5, 1-0) in a District 9-4A contest which could determine a district championship.

The Rebels will retire the number of former star Donte Jackson in a ceremony at the game.
