Dominant – the word clearly describes the performance of St. Thomas More thus far in 2019.

The Cougars pulled away late to defeat a good Holy Cross team, dismissed a traditionally good Barbe squad easily and drilled Plaquemine.

In week four, St. Thomas More went out and humbled Class 4A power Neville, 35-6.

As a result, the Cougars ascend to the top spot in our week five CrescentCitySports.com Class 4A statewide rankings. Unbeatens Bastrop and Lakeshore move up to second and third while previous No. 1 Karr drops to fourth and Neville falls to fifth. Unbeatens Eunice, Leesville and Breaux Bridge are next with Warren Easton falling to ninth after a heartbreaking loss at East Ascension. Assumption is tenth.

In Class 5A, John Curtis Christian survived a stiff test from St. Augustine to remain on top while Catholic of Baton Rouge and Archbishop Rummel were extremely impressive in big wins. The Bears smashed Karr while the Raiders destroyed Ruston. West Monroe is fourth with Acadiana fifth. The biggest move is Brother Martin moving into the Top 10 at No. 6 off of a big win over Jesuit.
