CCS Football Rankings: Southern Lab takes over top spot in Class 1A

While four of the five top-ranked teams remain the same heading into week two, there is a new top-ranked team in the CrescentCitySports.com Top 10 rankings heading into week two of the regular season.

Southern Lab takes over the No. 1 spot in Class 1A after a convincing 45-6 win over Belaire while previously top-ranked Oak Grove lost 33-21 to Benton. Ascension Catholic is now second with Ouachita Christian up to third. Oak Grove falls to fourth and Vermilion leaps to fifth after a huge win over Catholic of New Iberia. Country Day, Calvary Baptist, West St. John, Oberlin and Haynesville complete the 1A top 10.

In 2A, Notre Dame coasted to victory and remains in the top spot with Lafayette Christian second. St. Charles Catholic moves up to third after a big win at South Lafourche with Amite moving up to fourth after beating Lutcher. Catholic of New Iberia falls to fifth. Many is sixth with Newman seventh, Kinder eighth, Dunham ninth and Welsh in at No. 10.

University High, Class 3A’s top ranked team, proved it is still the team to beat in Division II after a very impressive win at John Ehret. St. James is second with solid Union Parish third and Sterlington fourth. Iota is fifth with Kaplan sixth and Lake Charles College Prep seventh. De La Salle falls to eighth with St. Martinville ninth and E.D. White Catholic tenth after a big win over rival Vandebilt Catholic.

Despite losing to John Curtis Christian, Karr is still the best team in 4A and the Cougars put 39 points on the Patriots in a losing cause. Warren Easton holds second after rallying past De La Salle with Neville third. Evangel Christian is fourth and St. Thomas More is fifth after a solid win at Holy Cross. Lakeshore is sixth with Bastrop seventh, Eunice eighth, Plaquemine in a No. 9 and Carver cracks the top 10 at No. 10.

In 5A, John Curtis Christian remains the best team with Catholic of Baton Rouge a strong second after demolishing Parkview Baptist. West Monroe is up to third with Archbishop Rummel fourth following a huge road win over an elite program in Charlotte Catholic. East Ascension is now fifth after knocking off two-time defending 5A state champion Zachary. Destrehan is sixth with Acadiana seventh and Zachary falls to eighth. Alexandria is ninth with impressive East St. John checking in at No. 10.
