Nick Caldwell

FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University men’s basketball team picked up its second-straight Southland Conference Player of the Week award, this time riding the hot shooting of Nick Caldwell to the honor, the conference office announced on Monday.

Caldwell, a senior guard/forward from Prairieville, La., made nearly every shot he took in Southeastern’s two contests on the week, hitting 70% from the field and 60% from beyond the three-point arc in victories over Incarnate Word and Northwestern State. He was 14-of-20 overall and three-of-five from deep as he averages 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in those games.

Monday against the Cardinals, he hit eight of his 10 shot attempts, including both attempts for three, to finish with 18 points while grabbing seven rebounds and had an assist along with a steal. He followed that up on Saturday by connecting on six of his 10 shot attempts against the Demons, going one-of-three from three, for 15 points. He also secured eight rebounds, blocked a shot, and contributed an assist against NSU.

The award is Caldwell’s first career weekly honor and the second-straight week where a Lion picked up his first career Player of the Week award after Roscoe Eastmond took home the award last Monday.

Caldwell and the rest of the Lions (11-13, 6-5 SLC) look to extend their season-best win streak to five games on Monday night in Commerce, Texas, looking to gain a measure of revenge against Texas A&M-Commerce. Tip-off of Monday’s contest against the A&M-Commerce Lions (9-15, 3-8 SLC) is set for 7 p.m. in The Field House. It will be live streamed on ESPN+ while a radio broadcast will be available, thanks to the Southeastern Sports Radio Network, on 90.9 FM The Lion in the Hammond/Ponchatoula area or worldwide at LionSports.net/ListenLive or LionUpRadio.org, and on smart devices through the Lions Gameday Experience app, the TuneIn Radio app, or the MyTuner Radio app. Live stats for both contests will also be available on LionSports.net.
