Three days removed from losing only its fifth match in a decade, Brother Martin’s bowling team found itself in another tight match Thursday against Slidell.

The Crusaders, locked in an 8-8 tie through two games, came up with a 1,325 final game – the highest team game in the New Orleans region this season – to pull away to an 18-9 victory over the Slidell Tigers at Colonial Lanes in Harahan.

Brother Martin’s right side of Sam Vollenweider, Beau Bufkin and Jacob Vangilder combined for 759 in the final game. Vangilder started the finale with nine consecutive strikes before leaving a solid 9-pin in the 10th and finishing with a 279.

Beau Bufkin led Brother Martin (1-1) with a 682 series, including games of 238 and 255. Vangilder finished with 671 and Vollenweider and Blake Hebert had identical 631 series.

Brother Martin finished with a 3,615 team series to join Jesuit and Archbishop Shaw as the only teams in the state to top 3,600 this season.

Anchor Hunter Mullen led Slidell (1-2) with a 642 series on games of 202-207-233. Landon Hoffman had a 592 in the leadoff spot.

Archbishop Shaw 26, Crescent City Christian 1: Reigning state singles champion Jonathan Arena had a 290 opening game and 737 series to lead the Eagles past the Pioneers at Bowlero Kenner.

Arena backed up his opener with games of 202 and 245. His game was the best of the season in the New Orleans region and his series was second only to teammate Joshua Collins’ 748.

Collins had a 235 game, Zachary Tran a 230 and Brady Barrilleaux a 222 for Shaw (4-0), which fired a 3,545 team series.

Chance Taylor had a middle-game 158 and claimed the only point of the day for Crescent City (1-3).

Jesuit 27, East Jefferson 0: The Blue Jays blanked the Warriors at Bowlero.

Alex Darcy fired an opening-game 264 to provide Jesuit (4-0) with a big jump start. Joseph Anderson had a 616 series and Nicholas Womble a 612 to lead the Jays.

Haven Haynes’ 149 opening game was the best of the day for East Jefferson (0-4).

Patrick Taylor 26, St. Therese 1: The Tigers started fast in a convincing victory over the Phoenix at Westside Lanes in Harvey.

Wyatt Barrios’ career best 178 game led Hahnville (2-3), which got a pair of points from Bryleigh Dufrene and Corbin Baird.

Destrehan 21, St. Augustine 6: The Wildcats’ co-ed team climbed back to .500 with a win over the Purple Knights at Bowlero.

St. Martin’s 14½, Kenner Discovery 12½: The Saints held on in the final game to defeat the Swamp Owls at Colonial.

Kenner Discovery led 5-3 after the first game but St. Martin’s rallied to take a 10-6 lead entering the final game with a 85-pin edge in total pins.

The Swamp Owls claimed 6½ of the possible eight points in game three, but couldn’t overcome the total pin deficit and the Saints claimed the three points for “super total” that proved to be the difference.

Noah Dunn’s 450 series, including a 182 opening game, led St. Martin’s (3-2). Cruz Elmer had a 420 series for Kenner Discovery (2-2).
