Boys Bowling: Brother Martin tops Jesuit in unbeaten showdown; Shaw also stays perfect

KENNER – In a showdown of two of the three remaining unbeatens boys bowling teams in the New Orleans area, Brother Martin defeated Jesuit 21½-5½ Monday at AMF All Star Lanes.

After taking a 5½-2½ lead in the first game, the Crusaders (5-0) captured seven of eight points in the middle game to build a nearly insurmountable 12½-3½ lead.

Brother Martin closed it out by winning six points in the final game and captured total pins by a margin of 3,563-3,338.

The Crusaders were led by Ashton Catalinotto, who had a 633 series from the Nos. 1 and 2 positions, including games of 219 and 233. Dylan McDonald had a 614 series and Carson Colletti a 609 for the defending state champions.

Anchor Gary Sims led the Blue Jays (4-1) with a 624 series on games of 200-201-223.

Brother Martin hosts East Jefferson on Thursday at Colonial Lanes, while Jesuit crosses the river to face the area’s other unbeaten, Archbishop Shaw.

Archbishop Shaw 26, St. Augustine 1: Also at AMF, the Eagles dominated the Purple Knights to improve to 6-0.

Shaw spread the good scores throughout the lineup as no one bowled all three games. Garrett Alello had an opening-game 232, while Jonathan Freeman closed with a 223 and Andrew Hill had a final-game 204.

St. Augustine dropped to 0-5.

Patrick Taylor 24, Pope John Paul II 3: At Westside Lanes in Harvey, the Tigers were consistent throughout in a victory over the Jaguars.

Preston Jones had a 601 series, capped by a final-game 215, to lead Patrick Taylor (5-1), which won seven of eight points in all three games.

Karlye LeBlanc’s middle-game 139 from the No. 2 slot topped Pope John Paul (0-2).

Holy Cross 22, Crescent City Christian 5: The Tigers won all eight points in the opening game en en route to a victory over the Pioneers at AMF.

Jackson Haro had a 466 series to lead Holy Cross (3-2), followed closely by Gabe Lucroy’s 456.

Chaz Emery’s final game 161 capped a 428 series to pace Crescent City (0-3).

Pearl River 25, East Jefferson 2: The Rebels moved back to .500 with a convincing victory over the Warriors at AMF.

Nathan Beadle had a 418 series from the No. 2 slot while Izaiah Auglair closed with a 192 for Pearl River (3-3).

Gunner Frazier had an opening-game 173 to lead East Jefferson (0-4).

Kenner Discovery 20, St. Therese 7: The Swamp Owls topped the Phoenix at AMF.

Jad Massassati’s final game 179 capped a 443 series to lead Kenner Discovery (2-3).

Logan Lejeune had a pair of 171 games and a 497 series for St. Therese (1-5).
