Prep football in Louisiana continues to have cancellations due to effects of the current pandemic.

Belle Chasse will not play its first two scheduled games of the season due to COVID-19 concerns after someone associated with the team tested positive.

Cardinals head coach Stephen Meyers confirmed the cancellations.

“The individual took a test at 1:30 and it came back positive,” Meyers said. “No coaches or players will be allowed at school for 14 days. We will obviously be safe and compliant. We hope to be back practicing the third week so we can play at South Lafourche, as scheduled. It is disappointing for the coaches but more so for the players. We had been fortunate not to have positives and now, we get just one.”

The Cardinals were scheduled to play at Salmen this Friday night and to host Douglass in week two. Both games are now canceled.

Crescent City Sports has also learned that Lakeside is also not playing its scheduled game with Mangham this week, also because of coronavirus-related issues.

Mangham was able to schedule a replacement game against Richwood, set for Friday night.
