Basketball: Shaw, De La Salle, Karr, Curtis, Rummel among winners Tuesday
Area Prep Basketball Report for Wednesday, Feb. 7
Archbishop Shaw downed Landry 45-32 in the showdown Tuesday evening for first place in District 10-4A in Marrero.
Landry took a 9-3 lead early on before Shaw rallied to a 19-18 halftime edge. The Eagles led 33-25 going to the fourth quarter.
Senior Chris Creppel led the way with 18 points and was deadly from the free throw line, sinking 13-of-14 attempts. Aidan LaSalle added 13 points.
Daryl Adams led Landry with 13 points. The Buccaneers lost contact with Shaw by missing all eight free throw attempts in the fourth quarter.
The win was the ninth straight for the Eagles.
Shaw (21-2, 3-0) returns to district play Friday night at home against Higgins.
Landry (20-9, 2-1) will host New Orleans Military & Maritime Friday night.
De La Salle remained unbeaten in District t9-4A with a 67-35 victory at Riverdale.
The game was close for quite some time, with the Rebels up 18-14 after one quarter before the Cavaliers took a 31-26 at halftime and the lead. It was 46-41 De La Salle heading to the final quarter when the Cavaliers outscored the Rebels 18-8 to pull away for the win.
Armand Woods led De La Salle with 18 points while Levon Gipson and Manny Young each scored 17 points. Young sank a trio of 3-pointers.
Bryon Perrilliat led Riverdale with 16 points, Roland Bullard scored 15 points and Toren Signal finished with 10 points for the Rebels.
Both teams return to district play Friday night. De La Salle (12-14, 2-0) entertains the Willow School Friday night while Riverdale (3-15, 1-2) travels to face Kenner Discovery.
Karr remained on top in District 9-5A with a hard-fought 52-47 win at Brother Martin.
The Cougars jumped on the Crusaders early, taking a 17-5 lead after one quarter and led 37-24 at halftime. Brother Martin fought back to cut the deficit to 45-37 heading to the final quarter.
Dezeman Favorite led Karr with 10 points, Tyrone Wilson had nine points and Keith Jones scored seven points.
Eli Pichon topped Brother Martin with 15 points while Raphael Bickham had 12 points.
Karr (20-10 7-2) returns to district play Thursday hosting Archbishop Rummel.
Brother Martin (20-10, 5-5) will host St. Charles Catholic Thursday.
Jesuit fell further behind Karr in the district race as John Curtis Christian went to Gayle & Tom Benson Arena and downed the Blue Jays 42-35.
John Curtis led 15-6 after one quarter and 25-18 at halftime. It was 27-22 heading to the final quarter.
Autrail Manning led the Patriots with 17 points while Midnight Martin scored 12 and Dagan Bruno had 11 points.
Jude Laforge scored 18 points while Gus Laibe had 11 for Jesuit.
Both teams are back in action Thursday with John Curtis (16-8, 4-5) hosting Holy Cross Thursday while Jesuit (23-7, 6-4) will play St. Augustine at St. Mary’s Academy.
Coming off a win over Jesuit after six straight losses, Archbishop Rummel made it two consecutive wins, taking a 54-40 victory at Holy Cross.
The Tigers led 12-9 after one quarter but the Raiders rallied to take a 26-20 halftime lead. Rummel led 35-27 heading to the fourth quarter.
Junior Jackson Cosentino scored a season-high 17 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to pace Rummel while senior Denim Smith added 11 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, with four rebounds.
Both teams return to district play Thursday. Rummel (15-13, 4-6) will play at Karr while Holy Cross (14-12, 2-7) travels to John Curtis Christian.
