Basketball: Shaw celebrates player milestones with eighth straight win

It was a special night in Marrero as Archbishop Shaw hosted Fontainebleau.

The Eagles honored a pair of stars who have eclipsed the 1,000 point total for their careers in Isaiah Barnes and Kam Johnson.

Then, the Eagles went out and took care of business, defeating Fontainebleau 56-43 for their eighth straight victory.

Shaw took a 20-11 lead after one quarter and led 36-22 at halftime. It was 48-38 going to the final quarter.

Johnson led the way with 22 points while Barnes scored 11 points. Christian Creppel added eight points for the Eagles.

“Both Kameron and Isaiah have been two of the most outstanding student-athletes I have ever had the privilege to coach in my career,” Shaw coach Wes Laurendine said. “Watching them be able to achieve such a significant goal has been such a pleasure.”

Shaw (10-2) will play at De La Salle Saturday at 7 p.m. while the Bulldogs (8-4) will host John Ehret Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

In girls action, Kenner Discovery dismissed Grace King 73-15 for its seventh straight win.

The Swamp Owls blew it open immediately, grabbing a huge 29-2 lead after one quarter and led 51-4 by halftime. It was 63-12 going to the final quarter.

Senior Isabella April led the way with 27 points and 11 rebounds while junior Camryn Johnson finished with 22 points and five rebounds.

Kenner Discovery (10-3) will host Fisher Thursday at 6:15 p.m. while the Fighting Irish (1-5) travels to Helen Cox Thursday.
