Basketball: Brother Martin, Landry, Shaw, Slidell boys; Karr girls win Tuesday
Area Prep Basketball Report for Wednesday, Jan. 10
Brother Martin broke open a close game in the second half in a 67-51 home win over Holy Cross.
The Crusaders opened the game strong, taking a 13-3 lead and led 15-9 after one quarter.
The Tigers rallied to tie the game 22-22 at halftime.
Eli Pichon of the Crusaders scored his 1,000th point of his Brother Martin career in the third quarter as the Crusaders outscored the Tigers 25-13 to take a 47-35 heading to the final quarter and were not threatened the rest of the way.
Pichon led a balanced attack with 15 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, while Klein and West each scored 14 points. West had four 3-pointers. Parker Dinsdale finished with 13 points.
Cashmere Pichon led Holy Cross with 16 points while Larkin had 14 points and Andoh finished with eight points.
Brother Martin (16-6, 1-1) snapped a 3-game losing streak with the win. The Crusaders return to district play Friday at Karr.
Holy Cross (12-5, 0-1) plays at Archbishop Rummel on Friday.
Landry continued its hot streak, handling M.L. King Charter 77-41.
Lawrence Hall led the Buccaneers with 22 points and five rebounds, Daryl Adams had 19 points and six assists and Kayden Joseph had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Landry (14-7) has won three straight games and will play at John Ehret Friday.
The Jaguars (6-8) will play at Cohen Thursday.
Landry and Archbishop Shaw are the top two teams in District 10-4A and are heading for another showdown for a district crown this season.
The Eagles easily handled Riverdale 78-41.
Freshman Allan Shaw led the Eagles with 14 points, senior Xavier Meyers had 13 points and Triston Naquin had 12 points.
Shaw (15-4) returns to action at Country Day on Thursday night.
The Rebels (2-8) play at Riverside Academy on Thursday.
Slidell came to New Orleans and edged Douglass 56-54.
The Tigers took a 17-8 lead after one quarter and maintained a 31-21 halftime advantage. It was 47-41 heading to the fourth quarter.
Junior Mike Parlow led the Tigers with 15 points, including sinking all three free throw attempts. Sophomore Jerry Birdlow had 11 points and five rebounds and senior Jerome Landor finished with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, along with three assists.
Slidell (14-7) returns to action Friday, hosting Tara.
The Bobcats (8-11) will host Abramson Thursday in a District 11-4A contest.
In girls action, Karr edged South Lafourche 54-50.
Freshman Cass Antoine led the Cougars with 21 points, sophomore Makayla Hartford had 13 points and senior Taliyah Webster finished with 10 points.
