Lakeshore has been an excellent, formidable program for the past several years.

The Titans reached the Non-Select Division II championship game a year ago.

Putting things back together with a fine new head coach in Jacob Seward, the young Titans experienced some growing pains this season, facing tough competition.

The growth is obvious and the tough opposition has made Lakeshore tough and dangerous again.

After losing game one at No. 4 seed Erath Friday, the 20th-seeded Titans rallied Saturday to sweep the Bobcats 4-3 and 6-2 to win the Non-Select Division II best-of-three series two games to one.

Lakeshore is getting used to this falling behind and rallying thing.

The Titans lost game one of its series at No. 13 Franklinton in the opening round before rallying to sweep games two and three against the Demons to advance.

The second upset was even bigger.

In game two Saturday, Erath led 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Braden Braud drilled a two-run single to lift the Titans to victory, forcing a third and deciding game. Owen Guth went the distance, saving pitching in the process. Guth allowed three runs on eight hits. He walked just one and struck out eight. Logan Lomonaco had three hits while Mason Maldonado had two hits and an RBI.

In the third and deciding game, Lakeshore jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back. Gavin Stein combined with Logan Lomonaco on the mound while Stein had two hits and an RBI. Guth homered for the Titans. Reece Sanzone had two hits and an RBI. Lomonaco went four innings, allowing two runs and struck out six while Stein went three scoreless innings, striking out three. Lakeshore stole 12 bases in the three-game series.

Lakeshore (16-19) advances to the quarterfinals to play at No. 12 Iowa, who upset No. 5 Eunice, sweeping the Bobcats in two games.

get the win in what was the final game for St. Paul’s coach Mick Nunez, who is retiring after serving the school for 23 years. Moreci allowed one run on six hits. He walked just two and struck out two. Brothers had two hits for the Blue Jays, who had five hits.

Jesuit (22-11) advances to the quarterfinals to play at top seed and nationally ranked Catholic of Baton Rouge next weekend in a best-of-three series at Grizzly Field.

After holding off No. 14 Carencro in a one-run win Friday, No. 3 seed Archbishop Rummel had no problem Saturday, drilling the Bears 11-0 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule Saturday.

Ryan Claverie (7-1) was terrific, pitching a complete game one-hitter. Claverie walked just one and struck out 10. Gavin Kennedy doubled and drove in two runs, Tulane signee Giancarlo Arencibia doubled and drove in a run while Loyola commit and District 9-5A Most Valuable Player Ruben Ramirez tripled and drove in two runs. Lenny Cline added two hits and an RBI.

Luke Roger took the loss and had the lone hit for Carencro, a double in the fourth inning.

Rummel (23-7), which lost 1-0 to Jesuit in the Select Division I championship game last season, advances to the quarterfinals to host No. 6 Alexandria next weekend.

In Select Division III, two-time defending state champion and top seed St. Charles Catholic completed a two-game sweep of No. 17 Ascension Episcopal, winning 4-1 Saturday in LaPlace.

Delgado commit Brandon Kragle got the win, going 6 1/3 innings, allowed a run on three hits. Kragle struck out seven. Jackson Monica homered while Landree LeBlanc had a hit and two RBI for the Comets.

St. Charles Catholic (27-7) will host No. 8 seed Pope John Paul II in the quarterfinals.

The Jaguars (25-8) completed a two-game sweep of No. 9 Newman, winning 10-0 Saturday in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule on a no-hitter.

Nate Babin did not allow a hit in four innings pitched to get the win. Babin walked no one and struck out six. Landon Guidry finished off the no-hitter in the fifth inning.

Pope John Paul II scored in the first four innings, including two runs in the first, second and fourth innings and four runs in the third inning.

Blaze Rodriguez had two hits, including a double and an RBI while Guidry had a hit and two RBI to pace the Jaguars.

Charles Wilson took the loss for the Greenies, who end their season 17-12.
