Baseball: Fontainebleau, Central Lafourche, Chalmette post wins Thursday

Area Prep Baseball Report for Friday, Feb. 24

In the Pearl River tournament, Fontainebleau handled Riverdale 7-1 at Slidell High in the season opener for the Rebels.

Jackson Wall pitched five strong innings, allowing just one run to pick up the win. Tulane commit Steven Spalitta homered for the Bulldogs as did Pierce Boles.

Fontainebleau improved to 2-0 with the victory.

Central Lafourche went on the road and downed Covenant Christian 8-6.

The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third before Covenant Christian tied the game 1-1 with a run in the fourth inning. Central Lafourche scored a run in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead before the Lions took their first lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-2 lead.

Central Lafourche then came up with the big seventh inning to take a 6-4 lead but Covenant Christian tied it with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 6-6. It stayed that way until the ninth inning when the Trojans scored twice to provide the margin of victory.

J. Davis starred for the Trojans.

On the mound, Davis pitched six strong innings, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits. Davis walked two and struck out one. At the plate, Davis produced two hits and an RBI.

B. Berger had two hits and two RBI, B. Martin had two hits and an RBI, T. Billiot had a hit and two RBI and C. Porche had two hits as part of a 13-hit attack for Central Lafourche.

B. Champagne pitched three hitless innings in relief to pick up the win.

Central Lafourche (2-0) will face Covenant Christian (0-2) again Friday at 5 p.m. at Covenant Christian.

In the WGNO Classic, Chalmette handled St. Augustine 10-0 at Suarez Stadium.

The Owls jumped all over the Purple Knights from the start, taking a 7-0 lead in the first two innings.

Cam Tipton was outstanding on the mound, picking up the win. Tipton pitched four and a third hitless innings, fanning eight. Allen Duvio and Marcus Campbell each drove in a run in the fifth inning to make it 9-0 before a balk plated the winning run.

The Owls (1-1) return to action Friday at home against Jesuit at 4 p.m. while the Purple Knights (0-2) travel to Archbishop Shaw at 6:30 p.m.
