Baseball: Brother Martin, Jesuit, Shaw winners Thursday

Area Prep Baseball Report for Friday, March 31

The winning run continued Thursday for Brother Martin.

The Crusaders took care of St. Augustine 10-4 at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium for its eighth straight victory overall. Brorther Martn remains unbeaten atop the District 9-5A standings.

The Purple Knights scored a run in the top of the first before the Crusaders took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. The lead grew to 3-1 in the third before St. Augustine scored three runs in the top of the fourth to lead 4-3.

Brother Martin answered with a three-spot of its own in the fifth inning to lead 6-4 and distanced itself with four in the sixth inning.

Cole Navarro pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run on five hits for the victory. Navarro walked just one and struck out seven.

Reece Roussel had two hits, including a base-clearing double while Frank Randol had two hits two RBI. Ryan Darrah was 3 for 3 with an RBI and scored four runs and Eli Booth had two hits and an RBI. Cody Kropp and Stan Wiltz each drove in a run.

Brown and Aiden Castillo each had a hit and an RBI for St. Aug while Tyrin Kirkland added two hits. Dawson Simmons took the loss, going five innings, allowing six runs on seven hits.

Brother Martin (16-5, 5-0) will meet St. Augustine (6-19 1-6) again Saturday at 1 p.m. at Wesley Barrow Stadium.

In a battle of tough teams from different divisions, Jesuit did all of its damage early and made it stand in a 3-0 victory over St. Charles Catholic at John Ryan Stadium.

The Blue Jays scored all three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Alex Jeansonne drew a bases loaded walk, Patrick Berrigan singled home a run to make it 2-0 and Michael Brothers bunted for a single, scoring the third run.

That would be all the scoring in the game.

Bryce Pitts saw to it, pitching a complete game shutout, striking out eight to pick up the win.

The Blue Jays (18-5) have won five straight games. Jesuit will host De La Salle Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

The Comets (17-6-1) will host Archbishop Shaw Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Shaw has endured a tough season with a young team facing a very challenging schedule. That young team is growing up.

The Eagles won 5-3 over Higgins in a District 10-4A contest.

Shaw did all of its damage early, scoring twice in the first inning, twice in the second and added a single run in the third and led 5-1 as the Hurricanes scored a run in the bottom of the first. Higgins scored once in the bottom of the fourth and added a run in the seventh but fell short.

Chase Baiamonte got the win, going four innings, allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Wes Perque picked up the third, going three innings, allowing a run on a hit. Perque walked just one and struck out five.

Julyan Clarks had two hits including a home run and two RBI while Cameron Bolden and Gavin Richard each had two hits. Blair Mills had a hit and an RBI.

Shaw (7-16, 2-0) has won three straight and faces a tough test at St. Charles Catholic Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Higgins (8-13, 1-1) will entertain St. James Monday at 4 p.m.
