MARRERO – After a rocky start to the season with back-to-back losses, Archbishop Shaw found an offensive rhythm, outscoring their opponents by double digits in their last two games.

The Eagles continued their stretch of dominance Friday night with a 44-7 home win over West Jefferson.

Everything went right for Shaw during the first half. Forcing a safety against the Buccaneers to start the scoring, the offense for the Eagles quickly followed suit with a two-yard touchdown run by Jasper Parker. Quarterback Mason Williams added to the lead four minutes later on a quarterback sneak to make it 16-0.

Less than a minute later, Wilson hit Caleb Williams on a 36-yard touchdown pass to end off the first quarter with the Eagles ahead 23-0.

Shaw began to work on the passing game in the second quarter. Wilson threw two more touchdown passes to Jacob Washington. The 39- and two-yard score sent the Eagles into the half with a 37-0 advantage.

Wilson amassed 243 all-purpose-yards and four touchdowns. Parker had 92 all-purpose yards and one touchdown. Washington notched 91 yards and a pair of scores.

After a scoreless third quarter, Darrell Hains Jr. rushed for a 10-yard touchdown for the Eagles’ final score of the night.

The Buccaneers made a last-minute push to avoid the shutout. Huey Cole’s 16-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy R. Atkins Jr. gave West Jefferson a consolation score with two minutes left to play.

Shaw’s strong defensive outing was highlighted by interceptions from Dallas Borne and Rontrae Carter.

Next up for both teams is the start of district play. Archbishop Shaw (3-2) will look to extend their win streak to four games when they face Landry-Walker on October 6. West Jefferson (0-5) will match up against Bonnabel on October 5.
