This is the time of the year when we take our annual trek through the state of Louisiana, identifying the best players performing for the NCAA schools within the state’s borders for the 2021 college football season.

1st team offense
TE-Kole Taylor (LSU) 6’7″ 242, SOPH, only recorded 6 catches for 36 yards as a true, FR in ’20, but made a quantum leap during spring drills.
OL-Ed Ingram (LSU) 6’3″ 315, SR, 28 starts for the Tigers, 12 coming as a true, FR, he is projected to be among the top OG prospects for the 2022 NFL Draft.
OL-P.J. Burkhalter (Nicholls) 6’3″ 330, SR, a two time FCS All American for the Colonels, 46 career starts. Called the best OL ever produced at the school The Franklin H.S. product could be the 4th Colonel O-lineman in school history to make it to the NFL.
OL-Corey Dublin (Tulane) 6’4″ 312, SR, has started 48 games for the Green Wave. If he starts every game in ’21 he will set a school record for career starts that may never be broken. High football IQ. OG/ center. Twice heavyweight state wrestling champ in H.S.
OL-Austin Deculus (LSU) 6’6″ 331, SR, 51 games played, 34 starts for Tigers, manhandles opponent.
OL-Max Mitchell (ULL) 6’6″ 300, JR, 24 starts for Cajuns, played LT as true, FR. 44th rated OT in nation by Phil Steele.
WR-Kayshon Boutte (LSU) 6’0″ 185, SOPH, 45 catches for 735 yards (16.3 yards per) 5 TDs . Ready for even better ’21.
WR-Dai’ Jean Dixon (Nicholls) 6’3″ 200, SR, 2,800 career yards, 165 grabs, 27 touchdowns, NFL talent.
WR-Deuce Watts (Tulane) 6’2″ 195, JR, 31 catches 512 yards (16.5 yard average) 6 scores in 2020. Primed for big season.
QB-Cole Kelly (SLU) 6’7″ 260, SR, in 7 games this spring tossed for 2,662 yards, 18 TDs, 4 interceptions. Won the Walter Payton Award recognizing the player of the year in FCS.
RB-Tyjae Spears (Tulane) 5’10” 196 RS, FR, 4.35 forty, 10.5 hundred meters. In 3 games in 2020 (before injured) raced for 274 yards (7.4 average) . Had 119 yard performance against Navy.
RB-Julien Gums (Nicholls) 5’10” 230, JR, 467 yards (5.1 average) 7 TDs in 2021 spring. Set school record in 2019 with 16 rushing TDs. De La Salle product.
RB-Tyrion Davis-Price (LSU) 6’1″ 232, JR, 446 yards (4.3) 3 TDs in ’20.

1st team defense
DL-Isaiah Chambers (McNeese) 6’5″ 250, SR, transfer from Houston had 32 stops, 14 TFL and 7.5 sacks, 11 QB pressures in shortened season (7 contests), 4th in Buck Buchanan award voting, 2021 All American, Southland Defensive Player of Year.
DL-Ali Gaye (LSU) 6’6″ 267, SR, team high 7.5 TFL in ’20, also 32 tackles, 2 sacks. Could have jumped to NFL but returned for ’21.
DL-B.J. Ojulari (LSU) 6’2″ 230, SOPH, 4 sacks (2nd on team) 3 QB hurries in limited reps which will expand in ’21.
DL-Tayland Humphrey (ULL) 6’5″ 335, SR, 32 tackles, 2 TFL.
LB-Jordan Lewis (Southern) 6’3″ 195, JR, won the Buchanan Award as FCS top defensive player after recording 10.5 sacks and 15 TFL in spring 2021. Against Alabama State tallied 11 stops and 4 sacks. Dominating, lightening 1st step. What’s more impressive ? He accumulated stats in only 5 games.
LB-Tyler Grubbs (LA Tech) 6’1″ 228, SOPH, 99 tackles, 8 TFL, placed him among top tacklers in the nation as, FR.
LB-Navontecque Strong (LSU) 6’2″ 220, JR, two-year total in JUCO 163 stops, 29.5 TFL and 13.5 sacks. Ranked #1 MLB in JUCO.
DB-Derek Stingley (LSU) 6’1″ 195, JR, #1 CB in college football, maybe best athlete.
DB-Ferlando Jordan (SLU) 6’0″ 180, JR, FCS All American, 28 tackles, 6 PBU, 2 interceptions. 1st team All Southland. Will play in NFL.
DB-Larry Brooks (Tulane) 6’0″ 200, JR, 58 tackles, 1 TFL, 3 interceptions, very active safety.
DB-Andre Sam (McNeese) 6’1″ 172, JR, paced Cowboys with 52 tackles and 3 picks in 7 games.

Place Kicker–Cade York (LSU), JR, the 6’1″ 198 was 3 of 4 between 40-49 yards and 5 of 7 50 yards plus.
Punter–Ryan Wright (Tulane) 6’3″ 245, JR, 45.2 yard average.
Deep snapper-Quentin Skinner (LSU) considered best in country.
Kick returner-Jha’Quan Jackson (Tulane) 5’10” 170, JR, rated among best in college football.

OL-Jair Joseph (Nicholls) 6’4″ 305 , SR, All Louisiana, All Southland 1st team, 32 games at RT.
OL-Liam Shanahan (LSU) 6’5″ 304, SR, solidified Tigers O-Line.
OL-Joey Claybrooks (Tulane) 6’6″ 300, JR, 31 games for Green Wave.
OL-Sincere Haynesworth (Tulane) 6’1″ 310, SOPH, anchors line at center spot.
OL-O’Cyrus Torrence (ULL) 6’5″ 332, SOPH, 24 starts for Cajuns, once weighed 420 lbs.
WR-Shae Wyatt (Tulane) 6’0″ 190, SR, transfer from Central Missouri where he had 1,142 yards receiving and 12 TDs in 2019. Looking for a feature receiver? Look no further.
WR-Deion Smith (LSU) 6’3″ 203, FR, he’s THAT good, think of Kayshon Boutte in 2020, also shares similarities with Terrace Marshall.
WR-Javon Antonio (Northwestern State) 6’4″ 220, JR, East St. John product. Totaled 31 catches for 521 yards (18.8 yard average) 4 TDs in 6 games.
QB-Myles Brennan (LSU) 6’4″ 212, JR, 1,112 yards (60.3 %) 11 TDs, 3 interceptions in limited action in ’20.
RB-Cameron Carroll (Tulane) 6’0″ 230, SOPH, 741 yards (6.1 yards) 12 touchdowns.
RB-Chris Smith (ULL) 5’9″ 195, SOPH, 350 yards as backup, but will role will expand in ’20.
RB-John Emery, Jr., (LSU) 5’11” 215, SOPH. 278 yards (5 yards average) 3 TDs, added 14 catches for 73 yards.

DL-Willie Baker (LA Tech) 6’3″ 247, SR, a flash off the edge.
LB-Dorian Williams (Tulane) 6’2″ 230, soph. 98 stops, 4.5 sacks, leading returning tackler in AAC.
LB-Trey Baldwin (LA Tech) 6’2″ 235, SR, 85 tackles, 6 TFL.

DB-Austin Hawley (ULM) 6’1″ 197, SR, 77 stops, 4.5 TFL, 1 pick.
DB-Cordale Flott (LSU) 6’1″ 165, SOPH, 43 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 4 PBU . on any other team would be the #1 CB.
DB-Kevin Moore (Nicholls) 6’0″ 205, SR. Texas Tech transfer, had 48 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 interceptions for Colonels in ’20 earning 1st team All Southland.

WR-Jaray Jenkins (LSU) 6’4″ 194, SOPH, 23 grabs 397 yards (17.3 average) 2 TDs.
WR-Jha’Quan Jackson (Tulane) 5’10” 170, SOPH, 31 catches, 512 yards (16.5 yards) 6 TDs.

QB-Michael Pratt (Tulane) 6’2″ 200, SOPH, 1,806 yards and nation’s leading 20 TD passes among freshmen in 2020, added 8 scores as a foot soldier. High ceiling in 2021.
RB-Marcus Williams (LA Tech) 5’10” 210, SR, transfer from Appalachian State had 503 yards and 3 TDs last season.
RB-Scooter Adams (Northwestern State) 5’9″ 190, SOPH, 681 yards (8 yard average) 7 scores.
RB-Devin BrIscoe (Louisiana College) 5’8″ 200, JR, transfer from Nicholls, had 231 yards rushing against McMurray last season.

DL-Joseph Dorceus (Tulane) 6’0″ 280, SR, could have monster year. In 39 games at Memphis had 141 tackles, 15 sacks, 35 TFL (which is 8th all time in school history).
DL-Andre Anthony (LSU) 6’3″ 255, SR, 5.5 sacks (tops on team), 4 QB hurries.
DL-Micah Latin (Louisiana College) 6’3″ 235, JR, in 5 games had 29 stops, 7 TFL, 4 sacks. Conference defensive Player of Year.
DL-Mason Kinsey (McNeese) 6’2″ 230, SOPH, in 6 games had 38 tackles, 7.5 TFL, 3.5 sacks for Cowboys.
LB-Mike Jones, Jr. (LSU) 6’0″ 220, SOPH, Clemson transfer brings a wealth of athleticism to Tigers. Had 30 stops, 3.5 TFL, 2 interceptions and 4 PBU in limited role in ’20.
LB-Nick Anderson (Tulane) 5’11” 230, JR, 88 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 TFL.

Coach of the Year–Billy Napier (ULL) the 41 year old had salary bumped to $2 million per season. He has guided Cajuns to 21-4 record past 2 seasons.
Offensive Player of Year–Tyjae Spears (Tulane) fans haven’t seen the real Spears yet…watch out.
Defensive Player of Year–Derek Stingley (LSU) could be playing in NFL right now.
Newcomer of the Year- Navontecque Strong (LSU) linebacker will be a tackling machine.
