Justin Veitch of Kenner is in the 64-player match play bracket finals for the third time in four years at the USBC Masters, one of professional bowling’s major tournaments.

This time, Veitch is the No. 4 seed in the bracket, which begins play at noon CDT Thursday.

Veitch averaged 230.8 for 15 games of qualifying over three days. He quickly moved himself into contention Monday night when he finished his opening five-game block with games of 300, 245 and 279 to jump into third place after the opening day.

Veitch averaged 212 on Tuesday to drop to 16th in the field of 465 bowlers, but rallied Wednesday morning with a five-game total of 1,184, including games of 274 and 267, to jump back into the top five.

Veitch meets two-time PBA champion A.J. Johnson in the opening round. Bracket play is double-elimination and features three-game matches, with total pins deciding the winner.

After six rounds of winner’s bracket and seven rounds of loser’s bracket matches, the five remaining bowlers will advance to Sunday’s stepladder finals at 12:30 p.m. CDT on FOX.
