Baseball: St. Charles Catholic extends win streak; Riverdale with shutout victory

Area Prep Baseball Report for Wednesday, March 27

The win streak continues for St. Charles Catholic.

The Comets made it 12 in a row with a convincing 10-0 victory over De La Salle at home Tuesday.

Jackson Doster went 3-for-3 with two RBI while Dax Pregeant had two hits and two RBI. Hudson Heltz added two hits while Brandon Kragle and Noah Troxclair each had a hit and an RBI. Luke Dewhirst was outstanding on the mound, picking up the win.

St. Charles Catholic (17-5) returns to action at Archbishop Shaw today at 6 p.m.

The Cavaliers (7-7) play Booker T. Washington Thursday at 4 p.m. in a District 9-4A contest.

Riverdale downed Patrick Taylor 2-0 at Mike Miley Stadium.

Senior Leland Rodriguez pitched five and a third scoreless innings, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts to get the win. Junior Blake Hooper came on to get the save, striking out four.

Riverdale took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a single by Jim Avila and Gage Dufour singled him home. The Rebels added an insurance run in the sixth inning. The Rebels left seven on base.

Preston Champagne took the loss for the Tigers, going the distance, allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and a strikeout. Kinkaid Hinyup had a double for Patrick Taylor.

Riverdale (13-4) opens District 9-4A competition Thursday at 4 p.m. against Kenner Discovery at Mike Miley Stadium.

Patrick Taylor (6-10) returns to District 9-3A play this evening, hosting Livingston Collegiate at 6 p.m.
