Shylia McGee, Abryhia Irons and Nina German combined for 35 second-half points Saturday to help Xavier University of Louisiana roll to a 74-54 Red River Athletic Conference women’s basketball victory against Jarvis Christian at XULA’s Convocation Center. The Gold Nuggets (9-4 overall, 4-3 RRAC) trailed 29-28 at halftime, then outscored the Bulldogs 46-25 in XULA’s highest-scoring second half in nearly two years. McGee finished with 20 points, Irons 15 and German 11. Ashanti LaVergne scored 12 points for XULA. Irons grabbed a career-high-tying 12 rebounds in her second straight double-double. McGee reached 20 points for the fifth time this season. XULA made 22-of-25 free throws, and German and LaVergne were 6-of-6 apiece. RRAC scoring leader Faith Robinson had 20 points for Jarvis Christian (6-6, 3-5), and Jada Williams scored 14. XULA is 6-0 at home this season and has won 11 straight and 22 of the last 25 in its Convocation Center. The Gold Nuggets will be on the road next week for three games: 5:30 p.m. Monday at city rival and NAIA No. 9 Loyola, 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Texas A&M-Texarkana and 2 p.m. Saturday at Paul Quinn.

Juniors Corey Dunning and Jeremy Lindsey led a dominant Xavier University of Louisiana rebounding performance Saturday in a 72-61 Red River Athletic Conference men’s basketball victory against Jarvis Christian at XULA’s Convocation Center. Dunning’s 12 rebounds and Lindsey’s nine were career highs, and the Gold Rush outrebounded the Bulldogs 58-23. Dunning is a 6-foot-9 forward, and Lindsey is a 5-11 guard. Lindsey and Tracy Steele scored 13 points apiece for the Gold Rush (9-4 overall, 5-2 RRAC), Lance Williams scored 12, and Xavier Reaves had 10 points and eight rebounds. TJ Jones had a season-high six assists for the second straight game. Tory Cargo, with 14 points, was the lone double-figure scorer for Jarvis Christian (4-8, 2-6). XULA is 6-0 at home this season and won 40 of the last 45 games in its Convocation Center. The Gold Rush will be on the road next week for two RRAC games: 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Texas A&M-Texarkana and 4 p.m. Saturday at Paul Quinn.
