XULA splits with Voorhees in first two of four game series

DENMARK, S.C. — Xavier University of Louisiana split a baseball doubleheader Friday with Voorhees, winning the second game 7-3 after losing the opener 14-4.

XULA (20-6) and the Tigers (5-13) will conclude their four-game series with a 1 p.m. EDT doubleheader Saturday.

In the opener, Voorhees gave XULA its largest losing margin and matched the most runs by a XULA opponent this season. In the second game XULA won on the road for the ninth time in 13 attempts.

Voorhees did not provide statistics on the games and may not have any available to XULA Sports Information before Monday.

XULA is in the midst of nine consecutive road games to conclude the regular season. It hopes to qualify for the Association of Independent Institutions Tournament May 8-10 at Lawrenceville, Ga.; that winner will qualify automatically for NAIA nationals beginning May 17.
