XULA basketball teams take doubleheader wins over Texas College

Abryhia Irons produced a double-double and reached a milestone Thursday to help Xavier University of Louisiana earn a 68-53 Red River Athletic Conference women’s basketball victory against Texas College at XULA’s Convocation Center. Irons had 18 points, a season high, and a career-high tying 12 rebounds. Her first assist of the game — it led to a Shylia McGee basket at 8:18 of the first quarter — made Irons the fourth Gold Nugget to reach 600 points, 500 rebounds and 200 assists in a career. McGee scored 17 points, and Rayna Ross grabbed 10 rebounds to help XULA (8-4 overall, 3-3 RRAC) snap a three-game losing streak. Te’Aire Hambrick scored 13 points for Texas College (5-9, 2-5). XULA will play host to Jarvis Christian at 2 p.m. Saturday.

men’s basketball
Jeremy Lindsey scored 15 points, and Xavier Reaves had 14 points and 11 rebounds Thursday in Xavier University of Louisiana’s 65-57 Red River Athletic Conference men’s basketball victory against Texas College at XULA’s Convocation Center. Lindsey made 3-of-4 3-pointers, and his first trey put the Gold Rush (8-4 overall, 4-2 RRAC) ahead to stay in the third minute. Reaves produced his third double-double this season. Four XULA reserves scored seven-or-more-points, including Kaleb Huggins with eight and Chris Ward with seven, both season highs. Jayven Humphrey had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Steers (6-6, 3-4). XULA will play host to Jarvis Christian at 4 p.m. Saturday.
