WEST MONROE – Captain Shreve arrived in a fog of green smoke entering Don Shows Field in the pregame Friday.

The No. 16 Gators couldn’t escape the fog after that.

No. 1 West Monroe trounced Captain Shreve 43-0 in the second round of the LHSAA Class 5A playoffs.

Running back Charlie Norman rushed for a career high 131 yards and one touchdown on 12 Carrie’s whole quarterback Garrett Kahmann had a rushing touchdown and threw two touchdown passes – to Michael Hamburg and Zach Murphy.

West Monroe led 40-0 at halftime and emptied the bench in a clock-running second half.

“It starts with (Kahmann),” West Monroe offensive coordinator Glenn Hunt said. “And we are spreading the ball around to so many different guys. Our tight end (Rylan Green) has done a great job so defenses have to defend that.”

The Rebels move on to the 5A quarterfinals to face rival No. 8 Ruston, 61-60 second round victors over No. 9 Alexandria in two overtimes.
