Volleyball: Tulane drops Friday night showdown against USF

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball continued its slide, Friday night at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse, losing to USF, 3-0 (17-25, 16-25, 21-25). The Green Wave fall to 12-10 overall, 1-8 The American.

Tulane started fast in the first set, opening a 10-7 lead, behind junior middle hitter Dayna Kern’s three kills. USF, however, put together an 18-7 run on the back of a team attack percentage of .452 to pull away and win the opening frame, 25-17. Freshman middle hitter Markenzie Benoit also added three first-set kills.

USF controlled the second set, winning 25-16. The Green Wave struggled to string together consistent offense, recording an attack percentage of .132, despite sophomore right side hitter Alexis Silver’s three kills (1.000 attack percentage). Sophomore setter Justine Bowersrecorded six assists in the set.

Kern continued her surge in the third, as she tallied x kills (.xxx attack percentage), but USF took the set, 25-21, to win the match. Kern finished with a team-high 11 kills (attack percentage of .429), while Bowers totaled a team-high 19 assists. Sophomore libero Kaylie McHugh added a team-high 12 digs.

Tulane looks to snap its seven-match losing streak when it hosts UCF, 12 p.m., Sunday, at Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The match will broadcast on the American Digital Network and be televised on Cox Sports TV.
