Video: Payton hints at Brees retirement announcement soon

During the CBS Sports Pick Six NFL Podcast on Wednesday, Saints head coach Sean Payton hinted that a retirement announcement by Drew Brees should come in the next couple of weeks.

“I think it’s coming in the next week or two. There’s a wear and tear in these years, especially at that position. I think that’s something in the next week, week and a half, he’s going to address and announce.”

Payton also praised Jameis Winston while discussing offseason roster plans that indicate the free agent quarterback is a target to return to New Orleans for a second season and presumably compete to fill the void to be left behind by Brees.

Taysom Hill, who started four games at quarterback for an injured Brees, has one year remaining on his current contract.
