Roydell Brown and Sha'Markus Kennedy

LAKE CHARLES – Several former McNeese Cowboy basketball players are continuing their professional careers overseas. Below is a list and summary of those currently in action.

There are a total of 12 former Cowboys currently active in their professional leagues. Note that there may be others but their leagues may have been completed or have not started yet.

#1. Experienced Patrick Richard (6’4”-PG-1990, played in 2008-12, plays pro in Romania) contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Constanta (6-11) 100-82 in the Romanian Liga Nationala in Friday night’s game. He scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 18 minutes. U-Banca Transilvania Cluj Napoca (2-0) is placed first in Places 1-10 group. Richard’s team will play only one more game in the Second Stage. And that game will be critical. It’s Richard’s fifth season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year 10.2ppg, 3.0rpg and 3.1apg in 22 games he played so far. Richard is a naturalized Romanian.

#2. Tevin Jackson (6’8”-F/G-1994, played in 2015-16, plays in Australia) could not help Perth Redbacks (12-6) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Jackson’s very good performance his team were crushed89-67 on the road by the second-ranked Wanneroo in the West group. He was the top scorer with 26 points. Jackson also added 8 rebounds. It was his first game for Perth Redbacks this season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It’s Jackson’s first year with the team.

#3. Roydell Brown (6’6”-G-1998, played in 2018-20, currently in Finland) led KTP-Basket to an overtime victory against the fourth-ranked Pyrinto (12-20) 114-106 in the Finnish Korisliiga on Saturday night. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds. Brown also added 2 blocks in 28 minutes. KTP Basket Kotka (13-19) is placed third in Places 7-12 group. The Second Stage already ended. It’s Brown’s first season with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Brown averages 15.6ppg, 7.7rpg, 1.5apg and 1.4spg in 28 games.

#4. Sha’Markus Kennedy (6’8”-F-1998, played in 2018-20, plays pro in Mexico) managed to help Halcones de Ciudad Obregon to win against the closely-ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (6-9) 86-75 in the Mexican CIBACOPA in Tuesday night’s game. Kennedy recorded only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (7-8) is placed fifth in the CIBACOPA. This season Kennedy averages 3.5ppg and 2.4rpg.

#5. Adrien Lawson (6’5”-G-1997, played in 2018-21, plays in Sweden) was not able to help Sodertalje in their game against Boras (22-10) in the Swedish Basketligan. Lawson recorded only 4 points in 23 minutes. The league leader Sodertalje lost 76-82 on the opponent’s court to the lower-ranked (#3) Boras. It was Sodertalje’s first loss after four consecutive victories. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. It’s Lawson’s first season with the team. This year he averages 9.1ppg, 3.6rpg and 2.2apg in 10 games.

#6. Stephen Ugochukwu (6’7”-F-1996, played in 2014-18, currently in Greece), who plays in the Greek Elite League (second division) was not able to secure a victory for GS Ermis Shimatariou (15-14) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Ugochukwu’s very good performance GS Ermis Shimatariou was defeated 86-77 in Megara by the second-ranked Megaridas. He recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 11 rebounds. Ugochukwu has relatively good stats this season 11.9ppg and 6.6rpg. He is a naturalized Nigerian. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

Kleon Penn (7’0”-C-1986, played in 2018-22) plays for Osos de Manati in Puerto Rican BSN
Myles Lewis (6’5”-G/F-1999, played in 2023-23) plays for Hoops in Lebanese LBL
Kellon Taylor (6’6”-F-1998, played in 2021-22) played for Skrljevo in Croatian Premijer Liga a few months ago
Diego Kapelan (6’3”-G-1987, played in 2007-11) plays for Panserraikos in Greek National League 1
Jamaya Burr (6’0”-PG-1995, played in 2013-17) plays for Georgia Panthers in the UBA
