UNO’s Woullard, Williams earn Preseason Southland Honors from Perfect Game

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers had two mentions in Perfect Game’s Preseason Southland Conference Preview. Luther Woullard was named to the preseason all-conference team and Issac Williams was tabbed as preseason Freshman of the Year.

Woullard led the team and was off to a hot start at the plate with a .381 batting average in the abbreviated 2020 campaign. He also registered a .474 on-base percentage. Woullard had three doubles and two triples to go along with 14 RBI in 16 games played.

The Mississippi native also has a pair of four-hit games as a Privateer. He had one against Chicago State in his first season on the Lakefront and added another against Prairie View in 2020. Woullard led the Privateers in RBI in 2019 with 36.

Williams comes to the Privateers after putting up eye-popping numbers in his last full season at Tioga High School. Williams hit .440 with nine home runs, 11 doubles, and 34 RBI. He also added 15 stolen bases.

Williams earned a bevy of awards including First Team honors in the district, region and state. He was also named Most Valuable Player. He was ranked third in the state according to Prep Baseball Report and was a Super 60 invitee.

The Privateers season gets going with the Andre Dawson Classic which starts on Feb. 19.
