UNO’s Green nabs final Southland basketball weekly award

Senior guard averaged 20.3 points per game in 3-0 week for Privateers

FRISCO, Texas – New Orleans guard Troy Green is the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Sunday. Weekly awards are presented by Hercules Tires.

Green averaged 20.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and four assists per contest in three games last week, highlighted by a 24-point outing in an 81-76 overtime win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday. He shot 22-of-41 (.537) from the field and sank 14-of-17 attempts from the free-throw line.

UNO began a second-straight week of three games with an 88-72 road win over UIW on Monday, followed by a 92-83 home victory over Northwestern State on Wednesday and the triumph over the Lions on Saturday.

Winners of four straight and six of its last seven, New Orleans (9-14, 8-7 SLC) secured the No. 5 seed in the 2021 Hercules Tires Southland Conference Tournament and will face the winner of No. 8 Southeastern Louisiana and No. 9 McNeese in the second round at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week – Troy Green, New Orleans – Senior – Guard – St. Rose, La.
Green led the Privateers with 18 points and added seven rebounds along with four assists against UIW. He went 6-of-8 from the free throw line in the first half. Green was one of four in double-figures in the win over Northwestern State, again leading the squad with 19 points to go with eight boards and seven assists. He shot 8-of-14 from the field.

For the third-straight game, he paced the Privateers’ in the box score with 24 points in an overtime win over Southeastern Louisiana. Green shot 9-of-15 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds. With UNO ahead by just three, Green drew a foul in the final second and converted both attempts from the line to ice the game.
