Privateers host 30 total games at Maestri Field

NEW ORLEANS The University of New Orleans released its 2019 baseball schedule Thursday and the Privateers host 30 total games and two tournaments at Maestri Field.

“Our schedule will challenge us early in preparation for conference,” said head coach Blake Dean. Dean received a two-year extension following last season’s Southland Conference Championship appearance. “Our goal each season is to play some of the best teams in the country and our schedule reflects that. We are excited to get the season started and ready to face our challenges head on.”

The schedule includes series against 2018 NCAA DI Baseball regional participants Missouri State University and Northwestern State University, and a home-and-home versus the University of Southern Mississippi.

The 2019 season opens at Maestri Field with the MLB Urban Youth Invitational/Andre Dawson Classic February 15-17. The Privateers host power-five Michigan State University in a three-game set. Following mid-week away tilts, UNO returns home to host its second tournament with single games versus Chicago State University, Rutgers University and Butler University (February 22-24).

The following week, New Orleans visits Southern Miss and concludes the week welcoming Yale University March 1-3.

Southland Conference play begins in the midst of a nine-game road trip March 6-19. Last season’s No. 1 seed in the conference tournament Sam Houston State University visits Maestri Field March 22-24. The Privateers defeated the Bearkats in the opening round May.

UNO resumes the Pelican Cup battle with Tulane University and hosts the Green Wave twice this season. The Privateers won the Pelican Cup in 2018.

The final home series features Houston Baptist University May 10-12. The Privateers head to Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field May 14 before ending the regular season in Nacogdoches against Stephen F. Austin State University.

The 2019 Southland Championship is scheduled for May 22-25 at Constellation Field. UNO advanced to the championship game as the No. 8 seed last season.
